I’m not surprised Debbie’s diagnosis has received such a strong reaction from fans. It certainly took me aback when I found out what was in store for her. Coronation Street is no stranger to tackling real-life issues and bosses always handle such stories sensitively and expertly. I suspect that Debbie’s storyline will be no different, but losing a character of her calibre is a very big price to pay.
