By MICHAEL HIRSCH Special to The Press The first draft of the South Whitehall Historic Resource Inventory was introduced at the Dec. 18, 2024, meeting by Christopher Strohler, long-range planner/special projects coordinator in a discussion. The board authorized a historic resource survey last year, assigning staff and consultant Jeff Marshall to compile information about the township’s historic resources.

By MICHAEL HIRSCH Special to The Press The beginning of the Dec. 5, 2024, Upper Macungie supervisors’ meeting began with a presentation by Donna Wright from the Agricultural Land Preservation Board. She provided an overview of farmland preservation efforts in Lehigh County and Upper Macungie Township. Lehigh County has preserved 406 farms, totaling more than 28,000 acres, Wright explained.

By MICHAEL HIRSCH Special to The Press South Whitehall Police Chief Glen Dorney resigned in April, and Stephen Brown was named interim/acting chief. Brown was appointed captain of the police department on Feb. 1, 2023. A 2001 graduate of Parkland High School, he served in the U.S. Navy from July 2001 until 2005, being honorably discharged as a master at arms, second class.

By MICHAEL HIRSCH Special to The Press Foxy’s Cradle hosted a kitten breakfast cafe Sept. 28 at Buttered Crumb Bake Shop, New Tripoli. Foxy’s Cradle, Coplay, is a home-based neonatal kitten nursery providing constant care to new born felines. Volunteers with the nonprofit group brought the new mobile unit to the Buttered Crumb where everyone enjoyed delicious breakfast offerings and a chance to visit with the kittens.

By MICHAEL HIRSCH Special to The Press The Friends of the Parkland Community Library operate a bookshop inside the library in South Whitehall. The Friends group was started in November 1976 and the bookshop opened in fall 2021, when library expansion was completed. The bookshop carries the Parkland High School summer reading books, usually at reduced costs. In addition to books, the shop sells puzzles, CDs and more and everything is donated.
