China is the world's top wheat grower and also imports large amounts of grain when domestic supply falls short of demand.

Chicago soybeans, wheat and corn rose on Thursday as U.S. President Donald Trump was expected to announce a trade deal with Britain which along with upcoming U.S.-China talks in Switzerland could reduce trade tensions disrupting U.S. grains and oilseeds exports. Chicago Board of Trade most-active soybeans rose 0.7% to $10.46-1/2 a bushel at 1114 GMT, wheat rose 0.7% to $5.38-1/4 a bushel. Corn rose 0.3% to $4.50-3/4 a bushel, with gains limited by favourable weather for U.S. corn sowings.
