Oshie likely to announce retirementThe Washington Capitals announced that forward T.J. Oshie will make a special announcement on Monday, June 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Washington Harbour in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The date happens to be on the anniversary of Oshie and the rest of the team swimming in the fountains just days after winning the Stanley Cup.

It's the offseasonThe Washington Capitals may be bringing the majority of their team back to get another crack at what was a successful regular season and while the playoff berth was shortlived it was still longer than previous ones. That being said let's look at two Caps players who won't be back with the team next season. We already know Nicklas Backstrom will not be back. Neither will T.J. Oshie most likely. A player that I think will not be back next season is Lars Eller.

Capitals dip into their pipelineThe Washington Capitals have re-signed goaltender Garin Bjorklund to a one year, two way contract. His deal will carry $775,000 at the NHL level and $110,000 in the AHL. The goalie posted a 21-4-3 record with a 2.02 goals against average and .927 save percentage with the South Carolina Stingrways of the ECHL in 2024-25. The 23 year old did this in a span of 29 games and had a shutout.

Next up we grade Lars EllerOne month into the season, the Washington Capitals were still looking for that third line center. They would then make a deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins to trade for Lars Eller. Prior to the trade Eller recorded seven points in 17 games with the Penguins with four goals and three assists. After the trade he appeared in 63 games with the Capitals and had six goals and nine assists for 15 points.

Next up we grade Dylan StromeNext up on our Washington Capitals end of season player report cards, we grade the performance of Dylan Strome. He's a center who seems to outdo himself every year and this season was no different. Stromer finished with a career high 29 goals and 53 assists for 82 points, easily his best season since the Caps acquired him during the 2022 free agency. He had a plus/minus of +2 while averaging 17:23 minutes of ice time. He also added three game winning goals.

Next up we're grading Taylor Raddysh's first season with the Washington CapitalsOur Washington Capitals player report card series continues on. Today we grade the performance of Taylor Raddysh. Raddysh is a versatile right winger who brought speed to the lineup and was useful in the bottom six. He also just turned 27 in February so he's part of the young core movement on the team. He finished with seven goals and 20 assists for 27 points in 80 games. The 80 games played was a career high.

Next up is Ryan LeonardIn early April a lot of buzz was surrounding the Washington Capitals. Their top prospect Ryan Leonard, the eighth pick of the 2023 NHL Draft, signed an entry level contract and was set to finally make his big league debut. He first played at Boston College for two seasons. His freshman year saw him score 31 goals and add 29 assists for 60 points. The sophomore season he was named an alternate captain and recorded 30 goals and 19 assists for 49 points.

Record breakers and Bandz, it's time to grade Alex OvechkinIt's my favorite day of the offseason. The day where we grade how Alex Ovechkin did but this year the Washington Capitals captain more than exceeded expectations in his 20th season. Ovechkin turned 39 years old yet still scored 44 goals and added 29 assists for 73 points in 65 games. He also had a plus/minus of +15 and had seven game winning goals while averaging 17:43 minutes of ice time.
