The Securities and Exchange Commission has released an updated draft of its Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) Rules, which includes an expanded regulatory oversight of how crypto-assets and related services are promoted in the country. Section 7 of the May 30, 2025, draft expands the definition of “marketing” from the December 2024 Draft to include nearly all forms of public communication, including events, educational content, and indirect endorsements.

The U.S. Treasury, the department responsible for issuing Treasury bonds, notes, and bills, has sanctioned a Philippine-based technology firm accused of providing infrastructure for cryptocurrency scams known as “pig butchering,” which have cost victims from the country at least $200 million. Funnull Technology Inc., based in the Philippines, was sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
