I spent the High Holidays at Chabad of North Fulton with Rabbi Hirshy Minkowicz. He leads a very engaging service and his sermons and discussions are always inspiring. Not surprising, much of his talks revolved around Israel and Oct. 7. One of his stories struck very close to home with me and I thought I would share. One of the themes that Rabbi Minkowicz discussed was that of Israeli resolve and moral clarity.

This Rosh Hashanah marks the 100th year of publication of the Southern Israelite aka the Atlanta Jewish Times. To be fair, the Southern Israelite began as a temple bulletin at Beth Israel synagogue (B’nai Israel as it was known then) in Augusta under the tutelage of Rabbi Cert Strauss possibly in July of 1925. Beth Israel is now known by its more secular name, Congregation Children of Israel and is still active.

What is happening to our children on college campuses? As opposed to learning have they gotten ignorant? I am going to begin by saying that I feel for the Palestinian people in Gaza; however, I have zero remorse or tolerance for Hamas. I have as much empathy for members of Hamas as I do for Vladimir Putin, both of whom are killing thousands of innocent people because in their warped brains, they think it’s the right thing to do. I cannot even imagine what planet they live on.

In industry, the stories we tell today turn into the events of tomorrow. Sector narratives are vitally important, particularly in the energy transition and especially now. What we choose to talk about matters, as evidenced by the dialogue and resounding commitment of so many countries at COP28 to triple renewables by 2030. Yet a central part of the energy transition remains a faint whisper on the periphery of the conversation. I’m talking about the sourcing of critical minerals.

Genocide. Do people not know the meaning of the word, do they know what the word means but are lying when they use the word, or are people just stupidly repeating that word because someone else said it? When our Congresswoman Talib says Israel is committing genocide, I think she knows the meaning and I do not think she is stupid, I think she is knowingly lying to the American people.
