It’s time for the moment you have all been waiting for: The reveal of the New York Jets’ rookie jersey numbers. Heading into rookie minicamp, the Jets revealed the initial jersey numbers of their 2025 draft class on Friday morning.

The New York Jets are widely viewed as one of the worst teams in football entering the 2025 season. One of the main reasons is their lack of depth along the defensive line, which includes both the interior and the edge. Regarding the latter, New York is facing a concerning situation in terms of depth.

Fine… I’ll do it myself. Quinnen Williams had to channel Thanos during the New York Jets’ 2024 season. The all-world defensive tackle was forced to single-handedly carry a Jets interior defensive line that featured no other league-average players. Williams’ partner in the starting lineup was Javon Kinlaw, who placed 72nd out of 106 defensive tackles (min. 300 snaps) on Pro Football Focus’ rankings. The No. 3 player on the depth chart was Solomon Thomas, who placed 90th on the same leaderboard.

On Wednesday morning, the Dallas Cowboys made a surprising trade for Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens. The fallout included a new trade rumor involving the New York Jets. With Pickens leaving a hole in Pittsburgh’s depth chart, Jets wide receiver Allen Lazard has come up in trade rumors after the Pickens deal. The connection makes sense, as Pittsburgh remains the lone potential landing spot for Lazard’s longtime friend and quarterback, Aaron Rodgers.

The tight end position remains a need for the New York Jets. It was one of the team’s most glaring needs entering the offseason, but the Jets did not make a substantial move to address it until the second round of the draft. With the 42nd overall pick, they finally secured a solution in LSU’s Mason Taylor, who currently projects as the team’s TE1. However, the depth behind Taylor remains shaky, with Jeremy Ruckert and Stone Smartt projected to compete for the TE2 role.

This is a whole essay just to say that teams have heard stuff about other teams and are exploring trade options, and that we will keep hearing more rumors until the draft. This changes everything!

A takeaway as we start Draft week. Just about every one of the teams I'm talking with has some gossip about another team they've heard in last twelve hours. That includes up top. Phones are ringing, too. It's a very weird Draft class. Expect a lot of buzz over the next 72 hours.

I still don't think Mougey has ever said anything interesting since becoming the Jets GM (Not complaining, that's praise)

Darren Mougey predictions "We feel really good about our options at 7." On trades: "We'll explore all options to improve the team." On contract extensions: "Those guys are great players, we look forward to those discussions." On Rodgers: "We're focused on the guys in house."
