After winning 95 games and the National League East last year, the Philadelphia Phillies brought back largely the same group of guys for 2025. Dave Dombrowski made only two major roster additions, trading for pitcher Jesús Luzardo and signing outfielder Max Kepler. It's a very small sample size, but both are looking like great moves after the opening weekend. Luzardo was dominant in his first start with Philly, striking out 11 Washington Nationals hitters over five solid innings on Saturday.

The Boston Red Sox nearly had an incomplete offseason. They nearly finished spring training with a positional controversy still intact (albeit with Rafael Devers now looking lost as DH). Boston almost let their new staff ace enter April without a contract extension. The time of "nearly" appears to be done in Beantown. Garrett Crochet spent only one year as a starting pitcher before the Red Sox traded for him. He's pitched in all of one game for the club so far.

If you asked a casual fan who the hottest hitter in Philadelphia was right now, their answer probably wouldn't be Edmundo Sosa. But four games into the 2025 season, his bat is making such an argument. Sosa has started three games at shortstop as Trea Turner deals with back spasms, and the 29-year-old is making the most of his sudden opportunities. Edmundo is hitting .545 (6/11) with three doubles, three RBI, and three runs scored so far.

The 2025 MLB season is shaping up to be an unusual one. Two clubs, the Tampa Bay Rays and the Athletics, are spending the entire season playing their home games in minor league ballparks. While the Rays' situation is only due to extensive damage to their normal home of Tropicana Field, the A's intentionally abandoned Oakland to move to a temporary home 90 minutes away.
