The former players and families at the centre of racism allegations against the Hawthorn Hawks have identified themselves in an open letter condemning the handling of the investigation into their complaints. The letter was penned by former premiership-winning superstar Cyril Rioli and his wife Shannyn Ahsam-Rioli, along with other former players and their partners including Carl Peterson, Jermaine and Montanah Miller-Lewis and Leon Egan.

Traditional Owners and environmental activists have rejected the NT government's assertion that the more than 100 recommendations necessary to approve fracking in the Beetaloo Basin have been implemented. It comes after the territory's chief minister, Natasha Fyles, announced that fracking of the basin, which lies 500 kilometres south of Darwin and covers 2.8 million hectares, had been approved.

원주민 토지 권리 운동의 선구자인 유누핑구(Yunupingu: 74)가 노던 테러토리 북동부 아른험 자택에서 세상을 떠났다. 존경받는 욜릉구(Yolngu) 원로이자 구마츠 지도자였던 유누핑구는 오랜 투병 끝에 오늘 아침 가족과 친구들 앞에서 생을 마감했다. 1978년 올해의 호주인에 선정된 바 있는 유누핑구는 원주민 토지 권리 운동과 원주민 인권 향상을 위해 한 평생을 바쳤다. Yunupingu as a young man. 요투윈디(Yothu Yindi) 재단은 성명을 발표하며 “구마츠 지도자 유누핑구의 별세를 애도한다”라고 밝혔다. 재단은 “그의 토템은 불, 바위, 바루(소금물 악어)였고 그의 이름은 시간을 거스르는 신성한 바위라는 뜻을 담고 있다”라며 “신성한 구마츠 땅에서 그를 기다리는 아버지와 친척들과 재회하기 위해서 자신의 여행을 시작했다”라고 말했다.
