Four Clemson graduate students have been awarded Claflin-to-Clemson Big Cat fellowships, a Graduate School program for students with a Claflin University undergraduate degree who are pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree at Clemson University. Of the four award winners in the program’s inaugural year, three are students in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program and one is pursuing a Master of Arts in History.

Almost Friendly Fire In February 2024, a fortunate mishap prevented German Navy air defenders from shooting down an American MQ-9 Reaper in the Red Sea. The frigate misidentified the U.S. drone and fired two Standard Missile 2s at the target – which both subsequently missed. This near-miss incident in the Red Sea and reports about minimal ammunition stocks have triggered many controversial discussions about the German Navy’s capabilities and readiness.

In February 1942, President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, which forced 120,000 people of Japanese ancestry, approximately two-thirds of whom were American-born citizens, to abandon their homes and livelihood and live in internment camps. Racism takes many forms, sometimes presenting itself inconspicuously. Last November, the Pew Research Center claimed that 78% of Asian American adults, even those who are U.S.-born, have been treated as a foreigner. That has been my own experience.
