Europe-based distributor POM Anime has acquired rights to upcoming Japanese anime Lupin The IIIrd The Movie: The Immortal Bloodline and classics Akira and Grave Of The Fireflies as it prepares to open Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye in several territories. The highly-anticipated Lupin The Third: The Movie marks the first 2D feature in the acclaimed franchise for nearly 30 years.

Local titles topped Hollywood tentpoles at the South Korea box office over the weekend with superhero feature Hi-Five ending a successful run at the top for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Hi-Five took $2.6m from 380,330 admissions from May 30 to June 1, according to Kobis, the Korean Film Council’s box office tracking service. With previews, it now has a cume of $2.7m from 395,500 admissions.
Edinburgh International Film Festival to close with Irvine Welsh documentary ‘Reality Is Not Enough’

Reality Is Not Enough, a documentary about Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh, is set to world premiere as the closing night film of the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF, August 14-20). Directed by Paul Sng, the feature finds Welsh at a crossroads, having found significant success with several film adaptations of his books, which have sold 6 million copies worldwide.

It will mark a move into international production for Seoul-based Artist Studio, the production banner led by Lee Jung-jae, known for his roles in Netflix series Squid Game and Disney + Star Wars spin-off The Acolyte.

EXCLUSIVE: Arrow Films has struck a deal with Shout! Studios to release 156 Hong Kong titles in the UK, including seminal classics by John Woo and Tsui Hark. It follows the acquisition of the Golden Princess film library by US outfit Shout! Studios in January, which comprised worldwide rights (excluding some Asian territories) to the renowned catalogue of titles.
