Four years ago, the Legislature charged the Texas Commission on Special Education Funding with finding the most efficient but modern ways to teach special needs children, and the committee's later recommendations were incorporated in Senate Bill 568, which was presented in the legislature's term that's ending Monday.

    A police officer in Arlington has been killed in the line of duty. Sgt. J.D. White was accompanying a funeral procession on Sunday when he was struck by a passing vehicle. The officer was taken by LifeFlight to a nearby hospital in Arlington, which is between Dallas and Ft. Worth. Sgt. White was pronounced dead a short time later.

    The Texas Legislature says "Sine Die" on Monday. That's Latin for "we're through here, we have no plans to meet again." But as Sine Die approached bringing the final say of the current session, legislators got their last laws and notions in, haggling over the weekend about the last of the bills to go through, including one that that will allow for houses to be built on smaller plots of land.
