A victory in Philadelphia would get Quinn to his second Super Bowl as a head coach, with his second different franchise. Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu got away with two penalties in last week’s win over the Lions that the officials missed, but the league’s disciplinary process caught. One was a potential game-changer: Luvu delivered a helmet-to-helmet hit on Lions quarterback Jared Goff after he threw an interception that the Commanders returned for a touchdown. If it had been called, the touchdown would have been wiped off the board, although the interception still would have counted.

Kafka interviewed in person with the Saints today, the team announced. Kafka has been the Giants’ offensive coordinator for the last three seasons. He previously spent five seasons on the Chiefs’ coaching staff. The 37-year-old Kafka played quarterback at Northwestern and was a fourth-round pick of the Eagles in 2010.

He has spent the last 12 seasons with the Broncos, first as a scout, then as the director of player personnel before getting the assistant GM job. The biggest offseason job for Mougey will be determining whether Aaron Rodgers remains as the team’s quarterback, and if not who will succeed him.

It’s official: Pete Carroll is the new head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders announced on Saturday afternoon that Carroll has officially become their head coach, a comeback to the NFL after many assumed his head-coaching career was over after he was fired by the Seahawks a year ago. Carroll has a 170-120-1 record as an NFL head coach with the Seahawks, Patriots and Jets. He won a Super Bowl and lost another during his 14 seasons in Seattle.

Unsuccessful coaches routinely get fired before their contracts are up. Most coaches never complete a full contract. The Cowboys are different: Their last head coach, Mike McCarthy, coached the entire length of his contract. The coach before McCarthy, Jason Garrett, also coached the entire length of his contract.

The Lions have lost both of their coordinators, but they won’t be losing offensive line coach Hank Fraley. Fraley’s wife posted on social media that the family is staying in Detroit, and multiple reporters have said he has confirmed that he will remain on the Lions’ staff. Fraley had been a candidate to either follow former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to Chicago and join the Bears’ staff, or become the offensive coordinator in Seattle. Instead he will do neither and stay in Detroit.
