How has Ireland become one of the powerhouses of global rugby despite an island population of only seven million and at least three sports (football, Gaelic football and hurling) that command more popular attention? More to the point, on an island of so many historical divisions, why is it that rugby (in which the island of Ireland competes as a whole) has been so successful in addressing – or at least not aggravating – those issues of nationality, faith, class and culture?

The Michigan wolverines men’s basketball team is now winless all time against Illinois with Juwan Howard as the head coach. Illinois has bested Juwan’s Michigan Wolverines 8 times now since he became head coach in May of 2019. The opportunities for a win against their southern foe will still come but how long is the question now. Illinois sits atop the Big Ten conference in terms of seeding for the upcoming conference tournament. The Michigan wolverines alternatively are towards the bottom half.

The university of Connecticut women’s basketball team can once again set the bar even higher by punching their ticket to the 2023-2024 NCAA women’s division one basketball tournament. The  lady UConn Huskies have amassed 11 NCAA division one national championships, including the streak of 4 In a row from 2013 through 2016. An even equal feature is the +50 conference regular season and tournament championships. I believe it goes without saying, the UConn ladies basketball program produces champions.

Who could have guessed the 2023-2024 Woman’s NCAA Division One basketball season would be filled with so many broken records. For many young woman, playing sports in college is a dream. Finally the tide is changing and not because of Alabama. Thanks to a new trend in college sports with the NIL deal, young female athletes are now in a much brighter light so to speak.

For many young athletes, the ultimate childhood dream is to compete at the professional level. There are some players who have solidified themselves as GOATS for their respective sport. Ultimately setting the bar for accomplishment to the highest degree. Names like Bird, Manning, Jordan, and Stojaković. All of whom happen to be hall of famers in some capacity. Players who are crowned champions look to win another, and another so on and so forth.
