A PERFECT day for football and netball saw plenty of interesting results around the region. Riddell District Football Netball LeagueWallan are back in the hunt for the double-chance ahead of a must-win game against Kyneton at home this week, taking care of Woodend-Hesket by 45 points at Gilbert Gordon Reserve. The Magpies led by nine points at quarter time, but really put its foot down in the second term, kicking six goals to two to increase its lead to 36 points by the main break.

IT was a big weekend for many of the region’s teams as the fight for finals intensified. Whittlesea was completely dominant after half time as it demolished Watsonia by 122 points at Binnak Park. In a complete role-reversal of their previous meeting, the Eagles were dominant from the start, and held the Saints to one goal in the first half to lead by 37 points at the main break.

IT was a weekend of near-perfection for Whittlesea, almost claiming a clean sweep across its Big V competitions. The Pacers’ men continue to leave no stone unturned in their quest to claim division one glory, recovering from a 15-point half time deficit to score a six-point win over Bulleen in front of their supporters at Mill Park Basketball Stadium.

SOUTH Morang took a big win to stay in reach of the double chance as they hosted Panton Hill at Mill Park Lakes Reserve. The Lions were never headed at any point during the afternoon, kicking four goals to nil in the first term to lead by 26 points. South Morang continued to expand the margin beyond any doubt, leading by 38 points at half time and 66 points at the final change, before adding five more goals in the last term to win 16.7 (103) to 1.1 (7).

KILMORE took lessons away from having its colours lowered by division two front-runner Lower Plenty at JJ Clancy Reserve. The Bears got the jump on Kilmore on Sunday afternoon by kicking four goals to one behind to lead by 23 points at the opening change. However, the Blues played some encouraging football in the second quarter to show it was up for the fight, and a late goal left the Blues sitting just 16 points down at the main break.
