MURRAY, Idaho – A century ago, there was a dredge floating in Prichard Creek. It was six stories high, 44 feet wide, 106 feet long. An arm hanging off the back scratched at the earth around the clock for nine years, from 1917 to 1926. In that time, it turned over 5 miles of the Prichard Creek floodplain. It also left behind lasting damage. Waste rock moved by the dredge sits in large mounds near Murray, a strange moonscape interspersed with spring -fed ponds.

Bob Ferguson on Saturday signed a new law that raises fees for nearly all hunting and fishing licenses by close to 40%. Under the law, an annual resident combination fishing license will now cost $62.79. A big game hunting license that includes deer, elk, bear and cougar tags would cost a resident $117.30.

A national hunting advocacy group wants four Washington Fish and Wildlife commissioners gone, citing a trove of internal documents that the group says shows the commissioners acted improperly. The Sportsman’s Alliance Foundation petitioned Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson asking him to remove commissioners Barbara Baker, Lorna Smith, Melanie Rowland and John Lehmkuhl from the nine-member panel that oversees the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
