INTRODUCTION Bark beetles (Coleoptera: Curculionidae, Scolytinae) are a large and diverse subfamily of weevils with significant economic, ecological and biological importance (Raffa et al., 2015). While some species are notorious pests of live-standing trees, others play crucial beneficial roles as primary decomposers, facilitating nutrient cycling and influencing forest landscapes (Raffa et al., 2015).
