    Lake groups, nonprofit organizations, and municipal and county governments in Vilas and Oneida counties have been awarded nearly $1 million in funding from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) surface water grants. In Vilas County, a total of $395,915 was awarded, and $525,945 goes to Oneida County. There also was a multi-county grant totaling $3,000 that the two counties will share. Vilas County Land and Water is one of the organizations that received funding from the DNR grants.

    Places third for ‘excellence’The Vilas County News-Review has again been recognized for General Excellence in the state’s Better Newspaper Contest (BNC), in addition to 26 other awards. This is the sixth time in just over 25 years the newspaper has been honored in this category, in a contest the judges called a “razor-thin” difference between first and third places.

Club 45 owners Jen and Dave Payne have grown the event that began with a few friends in 1994 to 40 to 45 entries annually.
