A bold and brand new music festival is set to launch in the District. Liberation Weekend is a two-day music and arts festival taking place at Black Cat and DC9 in D.C. on Friday, May 30, and Saturday, May 31, with all proceeds from the event benefiting the nonprofit Gender Liberation Movement (GLM). The bands performing at the event are an eclectic mix of rock, pop, punk, rap and more. Some of the bands expected include Pretty Bitter, Home is Where, Pinky Lemon and Ekko Astral, among others.

Round House Theatre in Bethesda, Maryland, is presenting a new theatrical production that is all about unexpected friendships, sports fandoms and LeBron James when he was with the Cleveland Cavaliers. But you don’t need to be a fan of James, the Cavs or sports in general to enjoy “King James,” according to director Rob Ruggiero. Ruggiero said the story is about the connection between two men, with the story taking place between 2004 to 2016 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Bottoms up! The Maryland Craft Beer Festival is back on Saturday with 58 locally owned breweries — including a few breweries not yet open to the public. Kelly Dudeck, executive director of the Brewers Association of Maryland, told WTOP that this year’s event should be able to please all types of beer lovers. “It’s not just IPAs. It’s a little bit of everything. There’s sours. There’s pilsners. There’s stouts. There’s all the things,” she said.

The nation’s capital is getting a paw-litical takeover as dozens of itty bitty speed demons rocket down the track in the 13th annual Running of the Chihuahuas. Expect a high-stakes blur of tiny legs as pocket-size pups sprint for glory at The Wharf on Saturday, May 3. The free event, emceed by NBC Washington reporter Tommy McFly, also includes a Pacifico Beer Garden, a live DJ, an adoptable pet parade and a dog costume contest that is open to all breeds.
