62 1/1 We have delved into the Echo archives looking at all things aviation and have found a fascinating selection of photos showing Bournemouth International Airport through the years. RAF Hurn, 440 SQD (RCAF) with one of their Typhoon's, 25th June 1944 The airport opened as RAF Hurn in 1941 but was transferred to civil control in 1944 with commercial services in the late 1950s.

24 1/1 WE have delved into the Daily Echo archives to bring you these pictures of when Bournemouth had a public swimming pool at the BIC. Public swimming pools had been an attraction near Bournemouth seafront since 1838, when the first baths were opened at the Pier Approach. Over time the buildings were replaced and improved in 1887 and a third time in 1937.

30 1/1 More than a century ago, one of the world’s most expensive places to live was just a beautiful undeveloped peninsula at the entrance to Poole Harbour covered in sand dunes. Among the few residents were the dwellers of shanties and huts which had been built without permission on the peninsula. Sandbanks was formed by the sand washed up into vast piles 100ft high by the changing tides.
