    Social media in the Savannah area has been viral with chatter that a local icon had died. Now, sadly, we can confirm that is true. Larry Haywood, known to locals as the "Flag Man," has died. This was verified via text message by Savannah Public Safety Spokesman Neil Penttila on Friday. Haywood was the victim of a hit-and-run while he was riding his bicycle around 8:45 p.m. on April 9 at the intersection of Skidaway Road and East 49th Street. The incident is under investigation.
