One year after making one of the worst trades of his tenure, former Jets GM Joe Douglas is returning to the team that he made the deal with. Joe Douglas has reportedly agreed to return to the Philadelphia Eagles as a senior scouting executive under GM Howie Roseman. Roseman was Douglas’ boss from 2016-2019 when Douglas was the Eagles vice president of player personnel, until he was hired to lead the Jets.

The New York Jets’ official 2025 schedule is here and now, we have the road map to the regular season. So, naturally, that means it's time to make some way-too-early predictions regarding the entire 17-game schedule. For context starting out, I think all of the results I posted below are under the assumption that the Jets remain relatively healthy. That doesn’t mean players missing games here and there, but in general avoiding any major injuries.

Woody Johnson had previously dipped his toes into the first two categories, but now it seems like he is doing a full-on cannonball into the “willfully ignorant” pool. Back in February, the NFL Players Association released its annual report card where the players grade organizations on everything from treatment of families, to facilities, to dietitians, to ownership, and more.

The New York Jets have their quarterback for 2025, and it’s one they passed on in 2021. The Jets have signed Justin Fields to a two-year deal worth $40 million and $30 million guaranteed. AtoZ Sports’ Pittsburgh Steelers Writer Rob Gregson had this to say about Fields joining the Jets. Fields is unlikely to miraculously turn into a franchise quarterback heading into his fifth NFL season. But he’s the perfect bridge quarterback with starting capabilities.

The New York Jets have a major offseason ahead of them in order to pull this team out of the depths and resurge during Aaron Glenn's first season as head coach. After hearing from new general manager Darren Mougey and Glenn last week at the 2025 NFL Combine, it's clear this team is looking to reshape the Jets off a disastrous 2024 season. That being said, I took some of what we learned last week at the Combine and laid out an offseason roadmap, if you will, for the Jets upcoming weeks.

Though the Dallas Cowboys hired Brian Schottenheimer with continuity in mind, you can expect "change" to be theme on defense. With Matt Eberflus at defensive coordinator, a shift in mindset is expected, as the former Chicago Bears head coach runs things significantly different compared to Mike Zimmer and Dan Quinn. His blitzes are fewer and he runs a one-gap style of defense that largely requires his front four to be successful in the trenches to unleash his linebackers as well.

Just hours after Woody Johnson officially fired GM Joe Douglas, a move that was sure to happen at the end of the season anyway, The Athletic released an article titled “Why Joe Douglas never stood a chance as Jets GM”. In the piece, Zack Rosenblatt and Dianna Russini detail a bunch of actions Woody Johnson did over the past year to handcuff, undermine or otherwise hamper Douglas’ ability to be an effective GM.

It was a make-or-break season for Joe Douglas and the Jets are certainly broken. And they are broken beyond repair. Today it was announced that it won’t be Joe Douglas looking to rebuild the team, as they fired the GM after almost six years and a 30-64 record. The move to fire Joe Douglas certainly is not a surprising one, but the timing of it, much like when the Jets ousted Robert Saleh after five games is a little head-scratching.
