Spahn & Rose Lumber Co. has entered into an agreement to purchase Whit Davis Lumber Plus, a family-owned lumber and building materials supplier with three Arkansas locations in Jacksonville, Cabot and Greenbrier. The acquisition will officially close on June 20, with stores reopening under the Spahn & Rose family on June 23. The Whit Davis name and local management will remain unchanged.

Far from being something new, it may surprise you to learn that component construction has been around for thousands of years. For example, the ancient Celtic people utilized components to build Stonehenge in England. The oldest parts of the structure were built from 3000 to 2935 BCE, and rather than being shaped onsite, the very large, upright sarsen stones that make up the bulk of the structure were quarried offsite in the Marlborough Downs more than 20 miles away from the actual build site.

Great Lakes Ace announced today it has signed an agreement to open a new store in Cincinnati, Ohio. The new Great Lakes Ace will be located in the White Oak Center at the northeast corner of Cheviot and Jessup Roads, 5840 Cheviot Road. The store will feature more than 13,000 sq. ft. of retail space. Renovations to the space will begin later this year, with a soft opening tentatively planned for the first quarter of 2026.

Sawmills are working to recycle trees blown down by Hurricane Helene to assist wildland firefighters while boosting domestic timber production. Many of the trees downed by the storm are usable, according to Johnny Evans, owner of EvAns Lumber Co. in Manchester, Tennessee. About 6% of the lumber produced at his facility comes from trees that fell during natural disasters. “It’s a resource that God gave us, and we need to recycle it instead of letting it rot into the ground,” Evans said.

As economic anxiety intensifies, a new survey from Realtor.com® reveals that U.S. homebuyers are bracing for a potential recession, but is there a silver lining? While 63.4% of surveyed home shoppers said they expect a recession within the next 12 months, marking one of the highest levels of concern since 2019, nearly 30% indicated that a recession would make them somewhat more likely to purchase a home.
