1968-S Kennedy Half Dollar Struck on 125 grain (8.1 gram) Magnetic Planchet * * * There are many major mint errors known on Proof coins issued by the United States Mint–including off-centers, off-metals, double and multiple strikes, bonded coins, and mated coins–but this is the only one known struck on a magnetic planchet. Over my 45 years dealing in major mint errors, I’ve never encountered another U.S. Proof mint error struck on a magnetic planchet.

19XX-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar Double Struck 90% Off-Center (Actually Struck 85% Off-Center) * * * This is one of three known Walking Liberty Half Dollars double struck at the San Francisco Mint. The other two were sold by Heritage Auctions for $41,125 and $32,900. This double strike is fresh to the market, was not known, and is actually struck 85% off-center, not 90%. It is lightly circulated with original surfaces.

Two cent planchets combined with a nickel planchet do not fit in the collar set up to strike Eisenhower Dollars. Therefore, these three planchets overlapped each other within the collar. Each one has an indent and mates together with the other two. This Ike clover leaf is unique since it combines planchets of different denominations and compositions.

By Mike Byers for Mint Error News …… This is an amazing off-metal mated pair of U.S. Proof coinage that combines two different off-metals. A clad dime planchet and a nickel planchet were intentionally placed in the collar at the same time and were struck by both the obverse and reverse Eisenhower (“Ike”) Dollar Proof dies. The placement of Eisenhower’s head on the obverse and the eagle on the reverse is perfectly positioned.

This is a unique 1855-O Type 2 Gold Dollar. It was double-struck with the second strike 95% off-center (die struck both sides). NGC authenticated and certified it as AU Details (Damaged) due to a few marks on the obverse.

As noted on the PCGS insert, it was struck on a planchet with a silver fineness of 34%. The remaining composition is 65% nickel and 1% copper. The planchet was burnished or has an experimental finish.
