SYDNEY—Struggling Australian casino operator Star Entertainment posted a large loss in its delayed first-half results and warned that trading conditions have continued to deteriorate as it tries to stay in business. Star posted a statutory net loss of 302 million Australian dollars, equivalent to US$191.1 million, in the half year ended December. Stripping out one-time items, it said its normalized loss was A$136 million.

But ranchers and industry groups say the biggest loser will be American consumers, who will be paying more for hamburgers. Australia supplies around 30% of lean ground beef imported to the U.S., according to Meat & Livestock Australia.
