    AS we enter the New Year 2025, we take a look back at Marlow as it was one hundred years ago, 1925. The basic layout of the roads and streets in the town-centre has not altered, although the names and businesses of the shops is very different. One part of Greater Marlow which has expanded beyond all recognition is Marlow Bottom. TOP: Here we are looking in a north-westerly direction to see the rural landscape which was to become the thriving community of Marlow Bottom.

    4 1/1 THIS week we go back to 1925 and take a look at what was happening in Wycombe in the January of that year and how the town has changed since then. Local Gossip For many years one of the most-read parts of the Bucks Free Press was the County Gossip section, which concentrated on local news of a less sensational character. In the first issue of the newspaper in 1925 an interesting account of the postal service over the Christmas/New Year period was given.

    4 1/1 Despite the demise of the Amersham & District Scottish Association in 2022, the spirit of the Association is still maintained by Scots in the area gathering for informal lunches to celebrate St Andrew’s Day on 30th November, and again to celebrate their national Bard, Robert Burns in January. The St Andrew’s Dance and the Burns’ Night Supper were always the highlights of the Association’s busy calendar.
