    The City of Kitchener doesn’t think we’re responsible enough to handle our alcohol in a public park. Council last week shelved a proposed pilot program that would have allowed alcohol to be consumed in Victoria Park. The decision is as disappointing as it is difficult to explain.     When the next election rolls around, candidates will once again post election signs on lawns across our region. It is important to emphasize this since it has become too easy to say that election signs have been banned in Waterloo Region. Already a Subscriber? Sign in They have not been banned. However, in 2022, regional council did arrive at a sensible decision to limit election signage to private property rather than cluttering public roads.

    By Mike Farwell, Special to Waterloo Region Record Nine months after announcing an ambitious, made-in-Waterloo Region homebuilding initiative, we have the land for the first project. The 'Build Now' initiative was introduced with great fanfare last July, pledging to build 10,000 "half-price" homes for our community by 2030. Last week, the City of Kitchener donated a parcel of land that marks the first step toward achieving that goal.
