Locally, the biggest impact was the Toronto Sceptres losing Sarah Nurse to Vancouver, which got the day’s proceedings off in lightning fashion striking first to get Minnesota defenders Sophie Jaques and Claire Thompson on its roster. The latter two are both Toronto natives while Nurse is technically a Hamiltonian — though Toronto has been claiming her for a little while now. The loss of Nurse is a big blow to the Sceptres.

Expansion into Seattle and Vancouver and the league’s emphasis on parity will ensure that. So yes, it's going to hurt if a Toronto Sceptres' fanbase loses a popular player like a Sarah Nurse or an Emma Maltais and probably most likely a Hannah Miller who might be interested in jumping at the chance to play for her hometown market in Vancouver. But if that hurts in Toronto, it won't hurt any less in Montreal if an Erin Ambrose or a Jennifer Gardiner, another B.C.-born player who might fancy the idea of playing in her home market, is lost. Every team is going to get dinged.

Brand new series for the Sceptres and a much tougher one https://t.co/Txv71Gr66G via @

So a one-game suspension for Britta Curl-Salamme for high hit on Renata Fast. I thought they might go two given her two previous suspensions but formula is geared to length of playoff season which is much shorter than regular season.
