When France swept to a resounding 4–2 victory over Croatia in the final of the 2018 tournament in Russia, two bitter political opponents in France went capital with their joy on Twitter. The president, Emmanuel Macron, who was present and jumping around uproariously during the final in Moscow, simply tweeted: “MERCI”.

I am exceptionally kind to wild animals. I routinely remove snakes from my neighbor's homes. If a spider gets inside my house, I escort it outside so it can go live its best spider life outdoors. Turtle crossing the road? You bet I’m stopping traffic and escorting him safely across. So you’d think that because of this, other wild animals would return the favor and treat me with a little common courtesy. Well, apparently one squirrel did not get the memo.
