Rob Cavallo has produced the who’s who of generational, turn-of-the-millennium rock albums: American Idiot, The Black Parade, and Brand New Eyes, to name a few. But when he first met and recorded with Los Angeles-via-Pittsburgh vocalist Keyawna Nikole, an artist who grew up idolizing the projects Cavallo produced, it was a revitalization of his earlier work’s punk spirit and led Nikole to find her self-proclaimed “hood alt” sound.
