It’s hard to believe 13 years have passed since Brian Dawkins retired from the NFL. Perhaps harder to fathom, it’s been 16 years since he suited up in the No. 20 midnight green jersey he turned into a wardrobe necessity, a fashion staple every diehard Eagles fan has hanging in the closet. Dawkins was the living embodiment of Philly grit.

The Eagles had maneuverability and motive to move up and grab a tight end. Heading into the 2025 NFL Draft, with Dallas Goedert ever in limbo, the franchise was targeted to get one as early as the first round. Colston Loveland. Tyler Warren. Mason Taylor. These were mocked as possibilities, although the jump up the board to get a marquee name would have been costly. So, the Eagles did what Eagles do best … they hunted. Patiently, they waited. The Philadelphia Eagles own the rights to a whopping 20 draft picks over the next two years, including 8 picks in this year’s draft. They don’t have enough uniforms, let alone roster spots, to sign all those players. That is the biggest reason people in the know are sniffing around the Eagles’ nest. Lane Johnson chuckled out loud as he started to relay his funniest story about Eagles’ legend, Brandon Graham. The retired pass rusher wore his reputation as the most vocal trash-talker on the Eagles as a badge of honor — torn and tattered, with “cuss words” draped from the seams. Johnson loved hearing him jaw. The 34-year-old right tackle will certainly miss seeing Graham’s face staring him down at practice. He always had a smile on his face, even when spewing venom and putting teammates on notice.

Jeffrey Lurie started with a spry smile when reflecting on the Eagles’ 2024 season, then ended with a furrowed brow amid serious introspection about his own legacy. He remains the only owner to lead the franchise to a Super Bowl championship — not just one, but two Lombardis now sit in that gilded trophy case. Taking it all in, with rear-view thoughts of a rough 2-2 start that saw people clamoring for Nick Sirianni’s dismissal, must have been beautiful retribution for Lurie.
