Former rugby union international Jordan Petaia is a step closer to realising a long-held dream of playing in the NFL after signing with the Los Angeles Chargers as a tight end. Football Australia has condemned “unacceptable” comments made by a radio show host, who prompted outrage after comparing the Matildas to “year 10 girls” and asking “got any men’s sport?”. Marty Sheargold, a broadcaster and comedian, said on his Triple M Drive show on Monday that he “would rather hammer a nail through the head of [his] penis” than watch Australia’s national women’s football team in next year’s Asian Cup.

Tony Jones has issued an apology to Novak Djokovic after comments the veteran broadcaster made at the Australian Open led to the Serbian tennis star boycotting Channel Nine’s coverage of the tournament. Djokovic opted not to give a customary on-court interview after beating Jiri Lehecka on Sunday to move into this year’s quarter-finals, before revealing he would not speak to the host broadcaster until he received an apology from Jones.
