You shouldn’t be surprised if the most important issue for Democrats in the Colorado governor’s race may not be TABOR or the budget predicament or unions or the housing shortage or Medicaid cuts or whatever other critical issue you can think of that doesn’t directly involve Donald Trump. Trump, the undisputed champion of governmental havoc-wreaking, is a colossus, of course. As you may know, I don’t mean that in a good way. Not at all.

I’m not going to write about Trump/Musk/MAGA and politics today. Or the Supreme Court’s overreaching split-the-baby rulings and politics. Or Elon Musk — LMAO — calling trade chief Peter Navarro a “moron” and politics. Or Trump on the mass anti-Trump protests across the globe Saturday — “I think it’s a shame. I think it’s a disgrace. And it’s got to stop,” Trump told Fox News — and politics. Or RFK Jr. and measles and vaccines and two infected Coloradans and politics.

You remember the doomsday clock, which warns us how close we are to nuclearized extinction? It still exists, but, let’s face it, who has time these days to worry about world-destroying nukes? What we need is a Trump doomsday clock, and if it’s set for anything less than four years — we’ll worry about a possible eight years later — we are, as another president famously said, in deep doodoo.

Sometimes, the Trump/Musk cartel is incompetent, as in the clown-car, classified-documents episode known as Signalgate. Sometimes, it is ruthless, as in the snatch-and-grab kidnapping of the terrified Tufts Ph.D. student by ununiformed, unbadged, unidentified government agents. Sometimes, it is extortionist, as in the threat to withhold funds, occasionally running to the billions of dollars, from universities unless they agree to do exactly what Trump/Musk demand.
