    You’ll be happy to know that Tina Peters, the former Mesa County elections clerk, is not simply wasting her time in prison as she serves a nine-year rap for allowing unauthorized entry into a secure elections area. If you listen to Peters’ defenders, you’d think it was just a sightseeing tour. But as a jury of her peers found, she brought someone in to make copies of computer hard drives, even as she was misleading election officials about her little jaunt into criminality.

    It can hardly be surprising that Donald Trump has picked a fight with Harvard. Bullying enemies has long been a central piece of Trump’s modus operandi. If anyone is not entirely sure what modus operandi means — I discovered it’s a New Latin term, which is apparently somehow different from Old Latin — I’ve got a link for you and also a piece of advice: Don’t ask for help from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who doesn’t know her habeas from her corpus.

    It’s a weird time in Colorado Democratic gubernatorial politics. And it will get increasingly weird over the next 13 months or so, at least until we reach the June 30, 2026, Democratic primary. We’ve got a lame-duck Democratic governor in Jared Polis, who, like many lame ducks, doesn’t consider himself hobbled at all. He has a point. Polis has Republican-led cities suing him over state housing policy, punctuated by Polis’ executive order that withholds some state funds to cities that don’t comply.

    We know, from listening in on Donald Trump’s cabinet meetings, that he makes the best deals. We know from MAGA-adjacent social media that Trump’s overwhelming personality and charisma cause even the hardest of hard cases to melt in his presence —  and therefore give Trump whatever he wants/demands. We know from reading a and watching a reality TV show and listening to Trump in any self-aggrandizing interview that he is not only the master of the art of the deal, but of just about everything.
