They made movies about Steve Prefontaine. A 1972 Olympian, he had shattered a variety of American records on the track by the time he was supposed to have run in the 1976 Montreal Games, but he died the year before in a car crash at the age of 24. They made a “movie,” if you will, about Joseph Rukanshagiza. The setting is an NCAA men’s cross country championship race in the 1970s, so, naturally, the legendary Prefontaine makes an appearance in this short, grainy black-and-white 8-millimeter clip.

There will be no Triple Crown attempt at Saratoga Race Course this year, after the connections of Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty decided on Tuesday not to run him back in the Preakness on May 17. Sovereignty, who won the Run for the Roses by 1 1/2 lengths over Journalism at Churchill Downs on Saturday, will target the Belmont Stakes at Saratoga on June 7, according to a release from 1/ST, which operates Pimlico Race Course.
