A folio of what have been described as some of the finest book illustrations of all time is to go under the hammer, half a century after it was found in a Hastings junk shop. The folio of 16 illustrations of subjects from Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book was commissioned in 1903 by the London publishers Macmillan from the Detmold twins, Maurice and Edward. They were young prodigies who had been exhibiting at the Royal Academy since the age of 13.

A masked man has been found guilty of rape after he forced his way into a property in Hastings and attacked a woman, said Sussex Police. An investigation was launched on November 30 2024 following a report to police. A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “On the evening of the incident, the victim opened the door in response to a knock. "A masked man, unknown to her, forced his way into the property. “He attacked her in an ordeal that lasted around 15 minutes before fleeing the scene.

Popular museum Yesterday’s World closed in 2015 but is still fondly remembered by many. The attraction documented 125 years of British social living history and contained more than 150,000 historic artefacts and interactive exhibits. It was well-known for its life-size street scenes and shop displays, which included an old-fashioned chemist and a sweet shop. Battle Abbey School now owns the building in High Street, Battle. Police are targeting a Hastings road after concerns were raised by residents about drug related crime. A Hastings Police spokesperson said: "Following concerns raised by residents around drug related crime, Police continue to pay passing attention around Hardwicke Road and the surrounding area whilst on patrol. "Additional patrols prompted by community reporting will continue to offer reassurances to communities, as well as to look to identify those involved.
