Associate head coach Chris Malphurs was selected to lead the Bobcats’ program after longtime BHS Athletics Director and baseball coach Ron Brooks retired last week. “Coach Malphurs has helped Coach Brooks this past season as his main assistant coach,” said new Buchholz Athletics Director Billy Pankey. “He also has several years of prior head coaching experience throughout the county.

But over Mother’s Day weekend, the trio helped lead a local club soccer team, the Men’s Under-19 Inter Gainesville KF Academy, to the Florida State Cup. The journey began with single-elimination games back in October and culminated with the semifinals on May 10, followed by the championship game.

    Eastside boys basketball player Audric Garciso didn’t make the freshman or sophomore basketball teams at Buchholz. He also sat on the bench during his junior season at Eastside. But on Thursday, he locked down a college basketball opportunity when he signed with Cebu Institute of Technology University (CIT University) in the Philippines. “I am so proud of myself for managing to get to this level,” he said. “I started from the bottom four years ago.
