He is retiring next month on June 7th, and after 32 years of serving his country, he simply says, "It's time."Currently stationed in Forth Worth, Texas, Shirey still thoroughly enjoys his job as a C-130 load master. He never planned to serve over 30 years in the U.S. Air Force.

For over two decades, Karen Morahan has distinguished herself in nursing education, military service, and community development. She is the focus of tonight's Remembering Our Veterans. Her distinguished 20-year military career in the U.S. Air Force exemplifies her commitment to service. She served in critical roles including Vice Commander of the Aero Medical Staging Squadron and Assistant Director of USAF Nursing Services, retiring as Lt. Colonel in 2011.

Erie News Now continues to honor local veterans and their families in our long-running series entitled, Remembering Our Veterans. This week, our Mike Ruzzi tells the story of Bill Fisher, a U.S. Air Force Veteran. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Bill Fisher had a unique assignment, he was a dog handler. His dogs, Wolf and Rex, were life savers. Wolf has the dark coat. Bill is originally from St. Louis, Missouri, and moved here to be closer to family.

U.S. Navy veteran Dave Garren actually started his tour of duty before he completed his senior year at Tech Memorial High School in 1987. His incredible journey is the focus of this week's Remembering Our Veterans story. Garren went into the Navy Boot Camp in the Great Lakes between the summer of his junior and senior year. "As long as you graduated, you are allowed to return to the military on active duty," said Garren. He was just 16 years old. Garren ended up serving in the military for 28 years.
