The mayor’s proposed City of Georgetown budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1 projects $47 million in general fund revenues, a $6.2 million increase over the current budget. However, the budget proposal expects a $1.6 million deficit. The city council held first reading of the budget proposal Wednesday during a special-called meeting. This meeting was scheduled in lieu of the regular meeting originally planned for May 26, which was cancelled in observance of Memorial Day.

Some 1,700 bicyclists will take to the roadways this weekend as the 2025 Horsey Hundred takes place. For 40 years the signature event of the Bluegrass Cycling Club has been based out of Georgetown but features five routes ranging from 26 miles to 100 miles in length. The routes cover Scott, Bourbon, Woodford, Jessamine, Fayette, and Franklin counties. “The weather looks beautiful,” said Jon Wiesner, event director.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK) makes two of the best-selling vehicles in the U.S., and indications are production on at least one may be ramping up soon. The RAV4 has moved past the Ford F-150 as America’s best-selling vehicle, according to some reports, while the Camry remains the best-selling sedan. This week Toyota announced the RAV4 will be built as a hybrid or plug-in hybrid only.

Dr. Crystal Miller has resigned as director of the WEDCO District Health Department to become the Commissioner of Health of the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department. Miller will join the LFCHD in July. Rachel Winkle, Director of Administrative Services, has been named Interim Director, WEDCO Board Chair Tim Thompson announced in a press release. Miller has led WEDCO for 18 years. WEDCO serves Scott, Harrison, and Nicholas counties.
