    Residential home sales surged in Scott, Harrison, and Bourbon counties in May, although inventory fell to its lowest in a year, according to the May report from Bluegrass Realtors. Some 109 homes were sold in May, a growth of 27 percent over the same month last year. The year-to-date median price for a home in Scott County increased six percent from $337,769 in May 2024 to $357,555 in the same month this year.

    The financial plan approved in 2023 for the Georgetown Municipal Water and Sewer Service continues to hold water based upon its latest budget projections. Following a series of public hearings, in 2023 the Georgetown City Council approved a six-year plan for the city owned utility that included annual rate increases. Based upon that plan, GMWSS is projecting revenues of $25.35 million during the 2025-26 fiscal year, an increase of $3.97 million.

    Following a brief public hearing Monday, the Georgetown City Council approved almost $1.2 million in paving projects this year. The Municipal Aid Program Funds (MAP) and Local Government Economic Funds are from the current fiscal year, which ends June 30. The MAP fund has a balance of $1,273 million and the projects approved Monday total $1.171 million, leaving a balance of $101,932.92.

    About three dozen developers, bankers and others met with Georgetown Mayor Burney Jenkins and consultants with TischlerBise to discuss potential impact fees on future developments Thursday. Van Griffin with TischlerBise spoke via Zoom, which was often garbled and difficult to understand. The presentation included many graphs and charts that were difficult to read during the presentation. The presentation is more clearly available via the City of Georgetown YouTube recording.

    Tucked among the visits to museums, Navy Pier and the Magnificent Mile, the Great Crossing High School Warhawks Band made an impression on Chicago White Sox baseball fans. The GCHS band played the National Anthem before the White Sox-Detroit Tigers game Wednesday on the field. The band was featured on Rate Field’s gigantic jumbotron video board — all 12,077 sq. ft. of it. “This is our regular band trip,” said Brad Keesler, GCHS director of bands.
