    Data collection in the NHS which conflates gender and sex poses risks to health, a new government review has found. The review across a range of public bodies by Alice Sullivan, professor of sociology at University College London, found that  ‘a confusion between sex and transgender and gender diverse identities’ had led date collectors to ‘merge these two things into one variable’.

    The BMA and the RCN have greeted news of the axing of NHS England (NHSE) with caution, after Prime Minister Keir Starmer made the surprise announcement yesterday. Sir Keir said scrapping the body and bringing its executive functions back into the Department of Health and Social Care, would bring ‘put the NHS back at the heart of government where it belongs – freeing it to focus on patients, less bureaucracy, with more money for nurses’.

    Thousands of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) are set to benefit from the roll-out of an immunotherapy tablet which can be taken at home. The tablet, cladribine, has been approved by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) for patients with the relapsing-remitting form of the disease. This comprises around 85% of the 150,000 people in the UK living with MS.  It had previously only been available for patients with the more severe, highly active form of the disease.
