Area softball fans were treated to an early-season showdown between two of the top local teams on Friday, as defending Section 1 champion hosted Ursuline in a marquee matchup. And although the Koalas would come away with a 3-2 victory on the afternoon, the tilt portended big things for both ball clubs as they try to establish themselves as title hopefuls once again. Sometimes, a stiff test before the playoffs is exactly what a team needs to spur it on to postseason success. On Friday night, the basketball teams of both Harrison and Rye found this out firsthand, as the Garnets and Huskies squared off in a league showdown on the last weekend of the year. In the end, it was Rye’s ability to rally back from an early deficit that proved the difference maker, as the Garnets came away with a hard-fought 54-49 win.

On Wednesday, February 5, Strazza became the program’s all-time scoring leader, eclipsing the 2018 mark set by Avery LaBarbera. Two nights later, she led her team to a decisive win over league foe Eastchester, helping the Huskies gain some much-needed momentum before the postseason kicks off next week.

Today, @RyeAthletics picked up its 50th win in "The Game", topping Harrison 24-0 behind two TDs from Chris Iuliano. Asked what it meant to beat the Huskies after the recent history of The Game, Iuliano grinned. "We lost to them the last two years," he said. "I owed 'em one." https://t.co/umhmO406b3
