The Wild Robot (2024)

PG Running Time: 101 mins SHOULD I SEE IT? Hands down, probably the best animated film released thus far in 2024. Certainly one of the best films of the year. Beautifully made and told, The Wild Robot brings a beloved children’s novel to life in an unforgettable film. Those who love Peter Brown’s book are going to find this a fantastic cinematic adaptation. One criticism I have seen regarding the film is a complaint that the film is largely predictable and lacks energy.
Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)

R Running Time: 127 mins SHOULD I SEE IT? For fans of Deadpool, this is more rambunctious and gratuitous fodder for cheap laughs, groan-inducing entertainment and everything you loved about the previous films. Far more about Deadpool than Wolverine, Reynolds and Jackman develop great chemistry together over the course of the film. I don’t know how good a movie this actually is, but I had fun with it. I laughed. And if so inclined, you will too.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)

R Running Time: 148 mins SHOULD I SEE IT? For nearly a decade, fans of Mad Max: Fury Road have been waiting for George Miller to return to the Wasteland. His prequel to Fury Road is one of the most anticipated films of 2024. A spectacle, with a terrific performance in the opening stanza by young actor Alyla Browne, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is going to please fans of this franchise with its go-for-broke stunts and action sequences and violent mayhem.
Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes (2024)

PG-13 Running Time: 145 mins SHOULD I SEE IT? Gripping, compelling, and building on a powerhouse trilogy of films from 2011-2017, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is the next-movie-up in the Summer 2024 cavalcade of blockbusters. Stunning to watch on the big screen, with extraordinary visual effects and cinematography. Sets the stage for a compelling, rumored new trilogy of films, with apes in power and a female teenager potentially emerging as a significant player in future stories.
Boy Kills World (2024)

R Running Time: 110 mins SHOULD I SEE IT? Action movies with short attention spans and graphic violence appeals to a particular demographic and Boy Kills World is the latest entrant into this very specific genre. Bill Skarsgård definitely understood the assignment. An admittedly clever concept where a deaf and mute man’s inner monologue is narrated for audiences… But that narration, much like the movie, loses steam and the novelty of the concept the longer the movie goes.
The First Omen (2024)

R Running Time: 118 mins SHOULD I SEE IT? Though the premise of the movie is alarmingly similar to Immaculate, released just two weeks prior to The First Omen, I do think the films are different enough to stand alongside each other. A breakout performance from Nell Tiger Free really does elevate this material. Contains more than a handful of obvious and not-so obvious nods and winks and references to the 1976 starter film for this franchise.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024)

PG-13 Running Time: 115 mins SHOULD I SEE IT? We are living in a Godzillaissance, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire continues on the trend of resurrecting Godzilla and Kong as characters and monsters for a new generation of moviegoers. Really impressive visual effects and sound design will work hard to immerse you into the world inhabited by these two gigantic beasts. A few nice moments exist here - a young ape named Suko, a few discoveries within Hollow Earth.
Dune: Part Two (2024)

PG-13 Running Time: 166 mins SHOULD I SEE IT? It may only be March 1, but this feels like this could be the most anticipated film of 2024. Dune: Part Two is finally here and playing constantly at a theater near you. As visually and technically impressive as any film you have ever seen. This is true cinematic craftsmanship and everyone is working at the top of their game. It is hard to believe Dune devotees will not absolutely love this.
Drive-Away Dolls (2024)

R Running Time: 84 mins SHOULD I SEE IT? Drive-Away Dolls is a wild, sapphic romp that marks the solo directorial debut of Ethan Coen, with a screenplay written by his wife, Tricia Cooke. Calls to mind the irreverant Coen Brothers comedies of the past, and Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan make for a great on-screen duo. Bold, direct, and in-your-face, this movie more than earns its R rating within the first few minutes.
