PORTLAND, Maine – One moment it looked like the York High School boys’ lacrosse team was going to celebrate a state championship after a dramatic fourth-quarter comeback. But then heartbreak set in Saturday morning at Fitzpatrick Stadium. No. 3 Yarmouth tied the game with 2.4 seconds to play in regulation, and then won the Class B state title one minute into overtime on Colter Olson’s goal, 13-12. Olson had been an effective scorer and passer all morning, setting up the tying goal.

PLYMOUTH – If you need a player to set the tone, Newmarket High School softball has a good one in junior Kierra Souphakhot. In Wednesday’s Division IV semifinal at Plymouth State University’s Chase Field, Souphakhot did just that with her pitching, her bat, and her defense. She tossed a no-hitter and struck out 10 in Newmarket's 6-1 win over No. 2 Pittsburg-Canaan. She also had a first-inning two-run home run that proved to be the game’s deciding runs.

PLYMOUTH – In tight tournament softball, one blink is all it takes for someone to move on and someone else to go home. Oyster River High School's Addy Veno scored the game’s only run in the top of the third inning on an error off the bat of her twin sister Mady’s groundball down the first-base line and lifted the No. 3 Bobcats past No. 2 Kingswood, 1-0, in Tuesday’s Division II semifinal at Plymouth State University’s Chase Field.

RICHMOND, Va. — Wilvens Fleurizard scored with one second to play as No. 10 Penn State Wilkes Barre came from six points down in the final three minutes to upset No. 2 NHTI in the USCAA Division II national tournament on Monday, March 11, 85-83. NHTI led by six (80-74) with 2:56 to play, but could not hold off Penn State. The game was tied at 39-all at the half.

Senior Calvin Chase played a huge role when Wells High School won the Class B state wrestling championship at Mountain Valley High School two weeks ago. The Warriors’ only individual state champion at 126 pounds, it was hard to envision Chase even wrestling when the season began back in December. A ruptured spleen suffered during football put an end to that season, and there was the potential that he might not be able to wrestle.

RUMFORD — Calvin Chase missed the second half of Wells High School’s championship football run with a ruptured spleen. The senior made a remarkable comeback for the wrestling season, so dramatic in fact that his championship win at 126 pounds sewed up the Class B team state title on Saturday at Mountain Valley High School. It was the Warriors’ sixth title in seven years.
