    ATLANTA — An officer involved shooting in southwest Atlanta has left one man hospitalized following an incident outside a local automotive shop on Lakewood Avenue. The man, identified as 42-year-old Travis Walker, was shot during a confrontation with Atlanta Police near the 2800 block of Lakewood Avenue. According to witnesses, the incident unfolded after a 911 call was placed reporting an armed individual at an auto repair shop.

    COBB COUNTY, Ga. — The man who is accused of murdering a mother of five in Cobb County was in the United States illegally, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. ICE says Sagastume Rivas is a native of Honduras and he entered the country illegally in March of 2021. Border Patrol arrested Rivas and he was ordered to be removed from the country in July of 2023. He is accused of putting 52-year-old Camilla Williams in a chokehold until she lost consciousness.

    NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — Police are investigating a shooting that left one person dead at a metro Atlanta park on Wednesday afternoon. Newton County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Denny Dobbs Park on Highway 212 around 5 p.m. after reports of a shooting. The victim, whose identity was not released, was rushed to the hospital where they later died. According to Caitlin Jett with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, the park is across the street from Oak Hill Elementary School.

    ATLANTA — Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has issued a warning to the public after a grieving widow fell victim to a cemetery memorialization scam. According to Gabriel Sterling, the Chief Operating Officer for the Georgia Secretary of State, a woman was targeted by an imposter posing as a Veteran’s Affairs Cemetery representative where her late husband was set to be buried. The woman’s initial attempt to pay fees was rejected by Zelle due to fraud detection.

    CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — A Georgia woman was sentenced to decades in prison after being found guilty of trying to distribute meth out of her home. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office say they received a 9-1-1 call about illegal drug activity at an Acworth home in June of 2023. When deputies arrived, 45-year-old Jacquelyn Elaine Moravetz was found with several bags of meth that weighed nearly 28 grams. Agents also say they found meth inside other personal belongings of Moravetz.
