My morning commutes were the first glaring signs that this was big. After 30 years of battling traffic on the Northway and at the Rexford Bridge, my drive to The Gazette was suddenly a breeze. No one else was on the roads, it seemed. It was late March 2020 and COVID-19 was exploding. Overnight, businesses were ordered to close, schools shifted to remote learning, and most of society shriveled with uncertainty and fear. It felt dystopian. To be honest, I thought it would all be over within a few weeks.
