Every once in awhile—especially after writing too much—I find myself in a state I sometimes call “lassitude,” in which I can’t summon up much energy for anything constructive, in which I feel the inner I prefer not to emerge with perfect, Bartlebyesque clarity, and all I want to do is engage in activities that make me feel suspended—not necessarily in pleasure, but in distraction, closing my eyes and listening to podcasts or climbing the cliffs of Hyrule.
