The cicadas are back! The offspring of the cicadas we had 17 years ago are emerging around the Cape, Coast and Islands. We talk with Tawny Simisky, Entomologist with UMass Amherst Extension and Russ Norton, educator in horticulture and entomology with Umass Amherst Extension about the lifecycle of this amazing insect and how it fits into the larger ecosystem. We also discuss how we can document their emergence and contribute to cicada research.

New data from the Center for Disease Control shows that in 2024 overdose deaths in the US were down nearly 30 percent from the same time in 2023. Despite this positive news, overdose remains the leading cause of death for Americans age 18-44. We talk with Jana Faiky whose son, Ahmad, died of an overdose 12 hours after leaving the ER for overdose.
