AbstractThe locus coeruleus (LC) contains predominantly norepinephrine (NE) neurons with widespread axonal projections throughout the brain and plays a critical role in the control of behavior, particularly arousal. Historically, the LC-NE system was thought to perform this function by releasing NE uniformly throughout most brain regions.
