Animation's direct-to-DVD DC offerings. 2024 has seen the release of Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths and Watchmen, though July's San Diego Comic-Con didn't bring the usual annual announcements about what's next. As a result, most fans expect these movies to be quietly scrapped.

I was lucky enough to work the red carpet for Millers in Marriage at TIFF 2024, and the general consensus among the cast and director/writer/actor Edward Burns was that they had seen generational films reflecting their lives in their teens and twenties, but now, as they’ve reached “a certain age,” no one is telling their stories. Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three marks the late Kevin Conroy's final performance as Batman as he returns as the version of the hero from Batman: The Animated Series. Making that even more special is the fact Mark Hamill reprises the role of The Joker...or does he? When the movie was released, fans were quick to point out that something sounded off about his Clown Prince of Crime and many doubted it was even Hamill at all.

The reviews are in for Batman: Caped Crusader and for fans of Batman: The Animated Series, it sounds like this is a (mostly) worthy successor. That classic animated series remains beloved, so not everyone is convinced it quite lives up to that. However, with Bruce Timm and Matt Reeves in charge of this 1940s-set crime epic, the Prime Video series does appear to have at least come close to reaching those lofty heights...even if it falls short in other areas.
