DiscussionHere we propose a method to optimize and standardize the inventory and monitoring of taxonomic, phylogenetic and functional diversity, and further introduce the definitions of α-sampling and β-sampling. We demonstrate the method using Iberian spiders and Amazonian bats as case-studies. This same method is applicable to any taxon at any region, as long as sampling can be done using a combination of methods.
