I’ll get right to it: grief fucking sucks. I’ve been in a constant state of survival mode since mid-November of 2024 (about 6 months before I wrote this). That’s when my brother called one sunny Friday afternoon to tell me our father was sick and in the hospital. Apparently, he didn’t want me to know. He was an alcoholic. Two weeks after I found out he was in the hospital, he was dead. I hadn’t spoken to him in months. Anger and resentment clouded every thought when it came to him.

Dear my younger self,I know how many times you sat alone in the dark, trying to sleep, but stuck thinking about all the “good" and “meaningful” times you spent with your father. There just had to be some, right? In the end, you feel like a bad daughter, not being able to find a reason to be thankful for her father on father's day. You feel sick trying to remember anything that made him feel like a father to you. I mean, he didn't leave. He wasn't abusive.
